First Aid for Minors

While it seems unlikely that anyone’s first choice for a first responder is a 12 year old, people who have found themselves the victim of a medical emergency would all agree that they’d rather have the 12 year old than no help at all; and that is precisely why basic first aid should be introduced to children little by little at the appropriate ages, if not in schools, then by their parents at home. Beginning health and safety training at an age-appropriate level is fundamental in cultivating a culture of health and safety awareness and equipping the next generation to contribute to raising health and safety standards in their chosen fields upon entering the workforce. As health and safety consciousness pros, we here at Strat Training are proud to advise you and yours on some First Aid tips

Basics for children:

Young Children of a school-going age (5-7years old)

It is of paramount importance to the health and safety of your own children, and the health and safety of their peers, that your child be well-informed of the correct action to take during an emergency. At this young age, that action may be as simple as:

  • Call an adult: be it a teacher, neighbour, sibling, or an emergency phone number, it is vital that your little one know who to get hold of in case of an emergency at home or at school.

Children in primary school (7-13years old)

  • Call an adult: be it a teacher, neighbour, sibling, or an emergency phone number, it is vital that your little one know who to get hold of in case of an emergency at home or at school.
  • Basic cursory assessment of/and treatment of injuries: this may include disinfecting scrapes and cuts and applying band aids, learning to identify when a joint needs ice, and/or basic first response training; such as never to move a person who has suffered a potentially bone-breaking fall until emergency medical technicians have arrived.
